Working hours

A Maternity nurse is normally employed 24-hours, 5 to 7days per week, for a period of 1-12 weeks following the birth of your baby.

Duties

day-to-day laundry for the baby
setting up sleeping patterns and caring for the baby through out the night so you can get a good night sleep

Salary of a maternity nurse

Maternity nurses are self-employed and their salaries vary according to age, experience, location and whether they are responsible for a single baby, twins or triplets. Maternity nurses usually earn between £900 to £1500 net per week, depending on experience, qualifications and the number of hours required. Following salaries are a guideline only:

24hour care with a single baby: £170-£200 per 24h day gross
24hour care with twin babies: £200-£250 per 24h day gross
24hour care with triplets: £250-£300 per 24h day gross

You do get a lot of work for your money. Maternity nurses work a six-day week of 24-hour days! Maternity nurses salaries are gross and they are responsible for their own tax and national insurance contributions.
